Our wedding reception at the Kellogg House was so much fun! The venue was absolutely perfect and we loved that our ceremony and reception were held in the same location.
We made our grand entrance after our portraits to Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” and groomsman JR even danced with his crutches!
Our first dance was to Journey’s “Faithfully” and we had a very candid and unplanned moment where we both threw our heads back singing. I am so glad that Houston “gets” me and not only does he let me be my quirky self, but he joins in the fun!
Derek’s best man speech was interrupted by his son Henry who decided he wanted to say a few words too. Our DJ Jon came to the rescue and offered Henry his own microphone (he just didn’t switch it on) and Henry continued to speak jibberish into it! Henry’s parents may have been mortified, but it is easily one of the most favorite and talked about moments from the wedding.
Leah’s toast was so sweet and highlighted our friendship through our 20’s: nights full of scrapbooking, cookie baking, and other shenanigans. We were wild ones for sure.
My Dad gave a sweet toast in honor of Houston’s father and we included his favorite iced tea cup on our sweetheart table in his Dad’s memory.
We were so impressed with the food at our menu selection and tasting before the wedding and the Kellogg House catering staff did not disappoint! Our food was amazing (if only I had been able to go back for seconds!)
We had three salads: a red potato salad, mixed greens salad, and a roasted pepper pasta salad.
Our selected sides were mixed vegetables and gouda potatoes (holy moly!)
Our selected entrees were a chicken marsala and the tri-tip.
Our venue coordinator, Jacqueline, had plates ready and waiting for Houston and me (seriously, she was amazing!) and we were able to eat quickly and enjoy that moment together. I am also happy to report that I did not spill any food on my dress. (When you’re naturally clumsy, you worry about things like that!)
Then it was time to dance, visit the photo booth, and soak up every second of our once in a lifetime party! The only downside was that it was still 105 degrees outside (no joke) and the heat made it hard to dance for any length of time.
I couldn’t have wished for a more perfect day or a more perfect man to share it with. I have found the one whom my soul loves.
A HUGE thank you to the Kellogg House for being such a phenomenal venue and for Jacqueline and her staff for making our day so magical!
