Babies need a lot of merchandise and foster babies often don't have anything of their own when they arrive at a foster home, this baby care kit is a great way to show a baby some love when they need it most. #HuggiesNewYear #ad

I have been so fortunate to be an Auntie to my sisters’ five boys, one girl, and now my two best friends’ daughters! I am also wiggling my way into Auntie status with Houston’s family as well. I served on the nursery team at my old church for 11 years and taught Sunday school for two years; I have been surrounded by babies and little kids for as long as I can remember! Spit up, diapers, and fussy babies don’t bother me; bring it on, I am the baby whisperer!

I have also seen the heartache of infertility in many of my friends and the intense longing for a baby to add to their family. I applaud the patient and tenderhearted women in my life. Among those deserving so much praise is my friend Clarissa who has been so open and honest with her infertility journey that has transformed her life and her family with the adoption of her two handsome little boys.

What started out as a foster opportunity has brought so much joy into her family and has even presented them with the unique chance to keep two biological brothers connected and together! They love their boys and are advocates for fostering and caring for the little ones in need.

In fact, last week they had another two precious little ones placed in their care. That’s the thing with foster care, babies need to be placed in safe, loving homes, quickly and they often don’t come with many things of their own.

Now, like I said, I have been around a LOT of babies and I know that babies come with a LOT of merchandise. But these babies, the newest additions to the Hooper home, they came with nothing. No favorite blanket, no extra diapers, no toy to comfort them. It is a good thing my friend Clarissa is one frugal lady and always has a stockpile of coupons ready, but she also reached out to friends on Facebook for any gently used baby clothes for her two little ones that we may be able to drop off quickly.

The two babies entrusted to Clarissa and her hubby came right on the heels of something really incredible happening at our church. A sweet family, the Thompsons, have launched a safe-house for foster babies for the transition time between being taken into custody and being placed in a foster home. I was shocked to hear that social workers struggle to place babies in homes (sometimes they only need to stay for a day or two) and the poor babies are stuck hanging out in an office building until someone is able to say “yes”. But the opening of Bithiah’s House in Southern California will help provide a bed for every baby that can’t be placed right away.

Hearing about Clarissa’s newest additions and the babies in need at Bithiah’s House inspired me to make some 48-hour care packages that can be given to each baby as they travel from place to place; easing the burden slightly on a foster home as well as providing a little security for the baby.

How to Make a 48 Hour Foster Care Package:

First things first.  Diapers.

It is no secret that the expense of
diapers can add up FAST! FAMILY DOLLAR carries HUGGIES®Diapers, so I stopped by
my local Family Dollar store on the way home from work and grabbed some baby
supplies for my care package. Family Dollar is a mom’s favorite one stop shop

I am a huge sucker for clear paint cans from the craft store
and I love how they hold everything together in a sweet container; the lid is
an added bonus so everything doesn’t spill out!

I asked Houston to design a sweet graphic to attach to the
top of the bucket that says: “You are loved” for each baby. He asked
me to doodle the phrase and then he turned my doodle into the graphic! Each
sweet innocent baby deserves to be told they are loved.

I wish there was more that I could do for the sweet babies
in the foster care system; but for now, I will shower love on my sweet friend
Clarissa and support Bithiah’s House! They are both doing great things in the
lives of the children they help.
