Even though I live in sunny southern California, I am no stranger to cold and flu season. I think it is a combination of daylight savings time, working in an air-conditioned office, and the fluctuation between hot and cold weather. The season usually packs a pretty aggressive punch, but this year I am stocking up and making a DIY Cold and Flu Kit so I am ready to fight back; no days off for this working mama.
I think the starting point to any great Cold and Flu Kit is a cute bag to put everything in. I already had this bag at home and knew it would be the perfect container for all my Cold and Flu symptom supplies.
Estimated Project Time:
30 minutes
Supplies:
- Silhouette CAMEO®
- Silhouette Cutting Mat
- Weeding Hook
- Silhouette Studio – use the Business Edition
- Adhesive Vinyl (I used Tiffany Blue)
- First Aid Bag
- “Get Well Soon” Design
How to make your DIY Cold and Flu Kit:
Start by getting a “Get Well Soon” design. You can buy one online or design it yourself if you have the skills to do so.
Open the Silhouette Software and open your design file.
Measure your bag and decide how big you will want your design to be. Adjust the digital design to be that size.
Place your Adhesive Vinyl onto your cutting mat with the color side facing up and load into your cutting machine.
Select the type of vinyl you are using and adjust your blade and settings accordingly. I used a matte mint vinyl.
Send your design to cut.
Unload your cutting mat and remove your vinyl.
Remove the outside vinyl from your design and weed out the center of the letters using your weeding tool, your fingers, or a small sewing needle.
Cover your design with a piece of transfer tape that is the same size. Make sure to rub your design to the transfer tape so it “sticks”.
Peel back the transfer tape – taking your design with it.
Place your design on your bag, right side up, and rub to transfer to the bag. I use a scraping tool.
Slowly peel back the transfer tape at an angle and make sure your design stays attached to the bag.
Now that your bag is decorated, start filling it with Cold and Flu-fighting essentials: Kleenex® Germ Removal Wet Wipes, Lipton Bedtime Bliss Herbal Supplement, and Theraflu Power Pods Daytime Severe Cold.
Kleenex wipes are a must in our house, car, and even in my errands bag. The Dependable Care and Ultimate Softness make sure to remove germs from surfaces for me and my family and help keep us healthy all through the Cold and Flu season. They safely wipe away 99% of germs from skin with no harsh chemicals.
The Lipton Bedtime Bliss Herbal Supplement helps make sure I get a good night sleep – which is so important, especially since I still wake up to tend to the baby from time to time. Drinking a hot cup of tea right before bed is a treat (like a lullaby in a cup!)* and the Lipton Wellness range, made with carefully selected botanicals and blended with essential oils, helps make wellbeing a part of my everyday routine.
At work, we have a single-serve coffee maker. Well, I don’t drink coffee, especially when I am not feeling well. Keeping a couple Theraflu Power Pods Daytime Severe Cold in my DIY cold and Flu kit will help me get through the work day by treating cold and flu symptoms. They’re compatible with most single-serve coffee machines and they also come in a nighttime blend. It’s powerful relief without a prescription.
I like to think of myself as a frugal gal who manages her time well; I love going to one store to get everything I need in one trip. My store of choice: Ralphs, part of the Kroger Family of Stores. I load up my coupons on my Ralphs app before I even leave the house and they are applied to my purchase when I enter my rewards number at the register.
Here are the current Kleenex coupons so you can be sure to add them to your account:
Look for the $1.50 coupon on 4-pack Kleenex Facial Tissues, for Kleenex Germ Removal Wet Wipes.
And, 11/4-11/24 you can get .50¢ off Kleenex 4-pack bundles and Kleenex Wet Wipes via this digital offer.
You can save $2.00 on any ONE (1) Theraflu Power Pods through 12/8, via this digital offer.
I also love that my purchase gives me reward points that I can then use to save money on gasoline. We get bag points in California for using re-usable shopping bags and I always make sure to do the customer survey for bonus points too. Every penny helps.
Tell me what essentials you would put in your DIY Cold and Flu Kit in the comments.
