I have been wanting to try glass etching and thought that a Jack Skellington Etched Plate would be perfect for Halloween. My first glass etching experience was a little dicey, but I was ready to give it another try and kept my fingers crossed that a Jack Skellington Etched Plate would be part of my decor for this year.
This week’s sponsor for the #DIYItsFallOhMy giveaway is Ikonart and I had so much fun creating this Jack Skellington Etched Plate with my first stencil. It is the coolest reusable stencil that you can use with paint, screen printing, or etching cream like I did.
Estimated Time: 30-45 Minutes
Skill Level: Intermediate
Supplies Needed:
- Stencil made with the Ikonart Custom Stencil Kit (use PDBJay15 to save 15%)
- Painters Tape
- Glass Plate (or glass item you want to etch)
- Squeegee
- Gloves
- Paper Towel
- Silhouette Etching Cream
Step One: Create Your Jack Skellington Ikonart Stencil:
Follow the Ikonart instructions for creating your stencil using the free Jack Skellington SVG from the freebie library.

Step Two: Making Your Jack Skellington Etched Plate:
Clean your glass plate.
Remove the carrier sheet from your Ikonart stencil and place it on your plate.
Tape off all the edges of your plate (or another item) and add the etching cream on top of your stencil.
SAFETY FIRST: BE SAFE WITH THE ETCHING CREAM. USE GLOVES, PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR, AND USE IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. FOLLOW ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS ON YOUR ETCHING CREAM.
Make sure you evenly cover the stencil with etching cream. I use a plastic spoon to scoop and spread the cream.
Allow the etching cream to sit for 15 minutes.
Here is a great tutorial from Ikonart that I watched before making my Jack Skellington etched plate.
Step Three: Finish Your Jack Skellington Etched Plate:
Rinse the remaining etching cream off your plate.
Remove the painter’s tape.
Allow the plate to dry and enjoy your Jack Skellington Etched Plate.
