This Valentine’s Day you can make your own “My Heart Belongs to Chocolate” gift tags to attach to sweet treats, candy, or even to wear on a t-shirt. This tutorial is for the “My Heart Belongs to Chocolate” gift tags I attached to a package of my favorite chocolate chip cookies but you could easily fill up the container with your favorite candies as well.

Be sure you grab the free “My Heart Belongs to Chocolate” SVG from the freebie library to use on your Valentine’s Day projects and grab last year’s Valentine’s Day freebies too (there are a couple in the library for you).

How To Get The My Heart Belongs to Chocolate SVG:

Click here to subscribe to the free cut file library and Polka Dotted Blue Jay newsletter.

Once subscribed you will get a welcome email with a link to the freebie library and the password to access the files.

Find the My Heart Belongs to Chocolate SVG file and click the image to download it to your computer.

If you’ve already subscribed but can’t remember the password, check your inbox for a newsletter email. The link and password are always included when you get an email from me.

Step One:  Design Your Tag:

Open Silhouette Studio® on your computer.

Select the Page Setup Window and adjust your cutting mat size to 12×12 (or the sized mat you are using). If you’re making these print and cut tags you will need to also change your media size and add the registration marks.

Purchase your Christmas Tree Gift Tag Design from the Silhouette Design Store and then open them in Silhouette Studio. Click File>Library>Library>Recent Downloads>Select the downloaded design.

First, delete the elements you won’t be using for this project. Simply select the element with your mouse and hit delete on your keyboard.

Add the My Heart Belongs to Chocolate SVG to your tag. Click File>Open>Select the downloaded design.

Next, copy the tag and paste the tag to make multiples.

Step Two: Print Your Tags:

Make sure your have your registration marks and your tags inside the border.

Add your colored cardstock to your printer.

Click File>Print>Send your design to print on your home printer.

Step Three: Cut Your Tags:

Turn on your Silhouette CAMEO® 4 machine.

Attach your printed cardstock to the cutting mat and load into your machine by lining up your mat with the guidelines and pressing the “up” arrow.

Then, click “send” in the Software and then select the type of cardstock you are using from the dropdown menu.

Double-check to make sure your design has been selected to cut and the Silhouette CAMEO®4 autoblade had been selected. The autoblade will adjust to cut based on the type of material you selected. I suggest always doing a test cut to make sure it will work with your cardstock – there is a “test” button at the bottom of your screen.

Make sure you select by fill and DO NOT check the box for your My Heart Belongs to Chocolate color. You don’t want to cut it out. You are only selecting the border of the tag.

Select “Send” to start cutting your tag.

Press the “down” arrow when your machine has finished cutting your design to remove the cutting mat from the machine.

Step Four: Attach Your My Heart Belongs to Chocolate Tag:

Remove your sheet of red cardstock from the cutting mat – go slow so it doesn’t curl up. The tag should easily separate from the cardstock and mat.

These tags already have a hole for the ribbon.

Attach your tag to your candy or cookie gift.
