I am so excited to finally share this custom journal for Nana with you. When I was a little girl, my Mom always encouraged me to journal and write down my thoughts and put my hopes, dreams, and emotions onto paper. It was a great outlet for all of my pre-teen angst.
Over the years we have purchased journals for each other and this year I made her a special one since now she isn’t just Nana to my nephews and niece, but to Jedidiah too.
I picked up a beautiful navy blue and floral journal at Target that I knew my Mom would love, grabbed some gold adhesive vinyl, and got to customizing.
Estimated Time: 15 Minutes
Skill Level: Beginner
Supplies Needed:
- Silhouette CAMEO®
- Silhouette Cutting Mat
- Silhouette Cutting Blade
- Weeding Hook
- Silhouette Studio
- “My Favorite People Call Me Nana” from Club Chaos
- Gold Adhesive Vinyl
- Floral journal
CREATING YOUR JOURNAL FOR NANA DESIGN:
- Open up your Silhouette Studio®.
- Select the Page Setup Window and adjust your cutting mat size to 12×12 (or the sized mat you are using).
- Download your design from My Designs in the Chaos and then open your word art in Silhouette Studio. Click File>Open>Select your downloaded file.
- I used the tracing feature to get the red outline of the design to cut. Don’t know what I mean? I’ve got all the steps on how to trace in Silhouette Studio.
- Attach your Adhesive Vinyl to the cutting mat, color side up, and load into your machine.
- Follow the prompts in the Design Studio to adjust your blade (if using a ratchet blade) for Adhesive Vinyl and double check to make sure your design has been selected to cut.
- Select “Send” to start cutting.
- Select “Unload” when your machine has finished cutting your design to remove the cutting mat from the machine.
PREPARING YOUR DESIGN:
- Remove your sheets of Adhesive Vinyl from the cutting mat – go slow so it doesn’t curl up.
- Use your fingers or a weeding tool to remove the excess vinyl. Be sure to leave your design on the backing sheet.
- Carefully remove the centers of the design – this is called “weeding”.
CREATING YOUR NANA JOURNAL:
- Place a piece of transfer tape over your design.
- Use the scraping tool to make sure the design adheres to the transfer tape.
- Gently pull transfer tape and make sure the entire design lifts with it.
- Place your design on your journal.
- Use the scraping tool or your fingers to smooth the design onto the journal.
- Slowly remove the transfer tape.
I would love to hear what you call your grandparents – my parents are Nana and Papa to their grandchildren.
